About Heath Mount School

Q: Lauren, for those who haven’t come across Heath Mount before, how would you describe the school in just a few words?

A: Heath Mount is a joyful, high-achieving prep school set in stunning countryside, where children are encouraged to be curious, confident, and kind.

Q: What do you think people notice first when visiting the school for the first time?

A: The setting, without question. The drive into the school through the beautiful grounds to the Georgian mansion makes quite an impression.

Q: How would you describe the atmosphere and culture at Heath Mount (students, teachers and community)?

A: Despite the impressive setting, the school feels friendly and inclusive rather than formal. Pupils are confident and happy. Parents, teachers and pupils interact with each other with ease.

Outdoor Learning and Forest School at Heath Mount

Q: How do the surroundings and outdoor setting influence school life at Heath Mount?

A: The outdoor environment is integral to life here, and the extensive grounds mean that learning is not confined to the classroom. Forest School, art and geography lessons outdoors and nature-based projects all feel like normal parts of the week. Sport, outdoor play, and woodland adventures all blend into daily life.

Life Beyond The Classroom

Q: What are some of the experiences that the children love most outside of lessons?

A: Pupils enjoy building camps in the woods and competing for the Golden Pinecone Award for best camp. Younger pupils love toasting marshmallows over the fire at Forest School and ‘baking’ cakes in the mud kitchen.

Q: Are there any places on the estate that are particularly well-loved by students or staff?

A: Nursery pupils have their own outdoor play area called Three Bears Wood, which they can’t wait to visit.

Pre-Prep pupils love the adventure of walking through the Woodhall Estate down to the river, where they sail their boats and hunt for bugs. Our older pupils enjoy lessons in our outdoor classroom (weather permitting!).

Awards and Achievements

Q: Are there any recent achievements or moments you’d like to share?

A: We are proud to have been selected as one of the ‘Top 5 Prep Schools in the Country’ in the prestigious Tatler Schools Awards 2026. Heath Mount won the Muddy Stilettos national award for being the prep school mostPassionate about Sport’.

Why Parents Choose Heath Mount

Q: What would you say to a parent considering Heath Mount for their child?

A: Heath Mount is a school where pupils are genuinely happy, well‑known as individuals, and encouraged to grow in every direction; academically, creatively, and personally. Many prep schools talk about balance, but Heath Mount genuinely lives it with academic ambition, a creative spark, outdoor freedom and the warmth of the community.

Q: Any closing thoughts you’d like to include?

A: What really stays with you about Heath Mount is how naturally children seem to thrive here. It’s a school with ambition, but also heart, a place where childhood still feels like childhood, yet the opportunities are exceptional. If you want your child to be stretched, supported and genuinely happy, it’s a compelling choice.
