Large areas of woodland – ancient, deciduous and coniferous – are actively managed by the estate’s forestry team. Working closely with expert forestry and environmental consultants, we have implemented a 25 year programme to manage and regenerate our woodlands. This involves felling or thinning areas of woodland (often previously planted by the Forestry Commission for commercial means) and creating the right conditions for natural regeneration. Woodland management is extremely long-term by its very nature, and therefore we put a lot of care and effort into the long-term health of our trees. This active management of woodlands has proved to have huge positive effects on nature and wildlife. Learn more about nature conservation on the estate.
